Flying On The Fringe

Thought maybe I was on the wrong planet when I hit Dagran’s atmosphere. I came in over dark blue-green forests with swatches of yellows and reds. Don’t know whether those are different colored trees or some kind of flower. I also crossed a fast-moving river and a tall mountain peak that rose clear above the tree line. Most spacefaring planets I’ve seen have wiped out a lot of the natural beauty. I crossed an ocean that was so big I couldn’t see land in any direction except for some little islands. Got to the spaceport—another island that’s obviously the peak of an old volcano. The spaceport sits in the crater. That’s scary. I’d be afraid to live on an island for fear it would sink. I guess that’s not really possible, especially a volcanic island that rises up from the ocean floor. Still, it seems scary. I wonder if island people are afraid of falling out of space from a spaceship?
